The Geometry of Becoming
Permission to Rise
Julie Davis — The Inner North Series
Growth is often described as change.
But this work speaks about something quieter — alignment.
In The Geometry of Becoming, ascent is not upward escape, but inward orientation. The structured arches form a corridor of awareness: each passage narrowing perception from noise toward knowing. What appears as movement is actually recognition — the gradual organizing of the self around its truest center.
The scattered butterflies represent identities shaped by environment, expectation, and adaptation. They move in orbit, not error. They were necessary forms of navigation. Yet none hold the axis.
Along the vertical path, points of color awaken sequentially — not added, but revealed — like coordinates remembered rather than discovered. The Monarch does not transform at the rainbow; it arrives already complete. The spectrum simply makes visible what coherence feels like.
Here, becoming is not improvement.
It is structure aligning with essence.
Within The Inner North Series, this piece marks the moment the internal compass stops searching and begins orienting. The viewer is not asked to change, heal, or transcend — only to notice where their own center has been quietly waiting.
The rise, then, is permission.
The Inner North is about remembering rather than fixing.
Instead of focusing on self-improvement, these works invite a quieter experience — noticing the part of you that already knows where you’re going. The pathways, light, and natural forms act like visual compasses, guiding viewers back to their own sense of clarity and direction.
The goal isn’t to change who you are.
It’s to recognize what has been steady underneath everything else.
